Nigeria's economy will continue to
witness a down slope pattern except the
following changes happen right from the
top to the bottom of our elected
Government official. So often, we
accused our elected leaders of greed and
corruption. This abnormal behavior is
not limited to our country alone. The
only difference is that our leader taken
the stolen money to another countries so
the country which now has authority to
this money will then turn the money for
their own best use. A country that wants
to grow should not continue on this
path. Any person found committing such a
crime should be charged and imprisoned
after recovering the money. I have
traveled to many countries and it is
very disheartening that only Nigerian
top level criminals has never received
any punishment for the crime committed.
Instead, they walk free in the public.
The money, which criminals have taken
out of the country, should be play a
major part in buildimg
Nigeria's economy and other essential
services.
Nigeria's economy can improve
when government rules and policies
attract foreigner and local investors.
Electricity is the first thing the
government should completely hand over
to private company, which could be more
resourceful and accountable. The high
level of corruption has hindered the
growth and development of the country.
It is highly impossible for any country
to develop without electricity. The role
of power, as source of energy, cannot be
overemphasized before any country can
think of having a healthy economy. It
does not take a rocket scientist to
figure this out. I remembered when I was
growing up in the west part of the
country. In the 70's, the elected
government official was there for the
people. In fact, the regional government
was performing much better than the
government of the 80's and 90's to date.
Nigeria's economy will continue to
crumble if every Nigerian only thinks
of what they grab in politics regardless
of the outcome. As long as there are no
consequences, like jail term
imprisonment in the part of
the accusers, I am afraid if the country
will ever develop.
The federal Government should relinquish
the issuance of business licenses to
states or have an office in each of the
state capitals. This will make it
easier for people, including
foreigners, who want to register their
business. Another way to grow the
economy in the country is total
reduction in the ridiculous charges
of business registration. All of this
put together makes business environment
in Nigeria very hostile uncomfortable
for investors. Nigeria's government
should pass a law to give 5 to 7 years
tax break to all new companies so that
they can be fully established and create
jobs for the productive men and
women that have been without jobs for so
long. All of these factors attract
economic growth and development.
Nigerians deserve better quality
life than what they have been getting
for all these long years.
In the area of education, all the
technical schools, that has for so many
years neglected, should be reinstated.
It is a fact that no country can develop
without technical education. No wonder
today millions university graduate
cannot think of what to do to help
themselves. Instead the men become big
liabilities to themselves and to their
parents while the majority of the women
turn to prostitutes. For more than 15
years now, if you will all agree with
me, the quality of education in
Nigeria has fallen to its lowest level.
By the way, I least blame the teachers,
who were not being
paid regularly monthly salary. The
proverb which says a "hungry man is
an angry man could not be right more the
teacher’s situation" in Nigeria
teachers deserves better treatment. But
thanks to private schools in the
country, this sector has contributed
immensely to education. The goverment also
needs to provide an investment on
technical education, were graduates
could be more useful to themselves.
It is a fact that many Nigerians that
travel out of the country cannot compete
in schools and work places with their
peers. Nigerian certificates have
become highly questionable because the
majority of people do not work for it.
Many students bribe their way out of
colleges and universities. Unlike
the certificates from many
Nigerian schools before, wherever you go
and present yourself ,there is always
tendency to stand up very tall among
your peers. The government should be
blamed for what has happened due to lack
of good planning and foresight. This has
plunged Nigeria's future into total
chaos and calamity. There is one thing I
know: Nigerian citizens are very
realization people. They can easily
overcome their odds and adversity no
matter what.
Therefore, I urge all Nigerians at home
and aboard to ask them self this simple
question: Was Nigeria better off 30
years ago than Nigeria of today? I am
very convinced that majority will answer
yes. As far as I am concerned, we all
have to face these problems head on.
On the part of our elected officials
that we voted to run the country, I
would say they have tried to do their
best, but it is only that their best is
not just good enough. Let all of us join
hands with the present government to
improve the growth and development of
Nigeria's economy by also improving our
roads, bridges, provision
of electricity, water, education,
security to the citizen and visitors
when all these in fracture are in place
and the country continued to records
years of stability then many investors
will be interested to invest in
Nigeria.
